Welcome Address

It is indeed a pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. This is a foremost Social Sciences Faculty in Nigeria and on the continent of Africa. The Faculty was founded in 1960 and has grown over the years with significant impact on the university community and the global space.

The Faculty is made up of six (6) academic departments: Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology and Urban & Regional Planning, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Human and material resources available in the faculty are quite enormous with lecturers who are experts in their various fields and collaborating to foster a collegiate atmosphere. A harmonious lecturer-student relationship is encouraged within the Faculty. It is worthy of note that students are at the centre of what the faculty does, the Faculty has among other student-friendly initiatives the Student Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) and Students Help Centre. Based on the concern for staff welfare, the faculty in collaboration with the University Health Services runs a weekly clinic with medical personal on ground every Tuesday.

The Faculty of the Social Sciences has one of the best Faculty-based Libraries in the University of Ibadan which is e-compliant with IT support. There are a couple of lounges in the Faculty for staff and students. Our students over the years have been proving their mettles in academics, sport and other extracurricular activities. Our graduates are all over the globe contributing to socio-economic development in various walks of life.
